The Ram 1500 REV has been confirmed for Australia, with the all-electric pick-up truck to arrive in our market soon after the model's US launch in late 2024.
That's the word from Ram's US boss Mike Koval, who told Australian media that supply of the Ford F-150 Lightning rival for our market would be built into the model's production plan, ensuring no — or, at least, a smaller — delay between the 1500 REV's US launch and its arrival in Australia.
Asked whether he could confirm 1500 REV's launch in Australia — through Walkinshaw and Ram Trucks Australia's local conversion process — the executive replied: "Ultimately yes”.
"We appreciate everything that the team in Australia and New Zealand (do), they've been fantastic partners for us. And you see the numbers — I mean, we're growing by leaps and bounds year after year," he said.
Speaking from the floor of the New York Auto Show, Mr Koval went on to say his goal is to create global products, which includes securing Australian supply to ensure launch timing that will be "very close" to the vehicle's US launch.
"The idea here, and with any future product, is that we are a global brand more than ever. Historically, Ram brand sales have been predominantly in North America. Not anymore. If you look at the numbers of South America, the Middle East, Australia, New Zealand….this is where something like (the 1500 REV) can really help us. This is all about global growth," he said.
"This should enable us to expand our presence. There may be staggered approach (to launch), but it will be very close. We're not excluding anybody out of the gate.”
The Ram 1500 REV was revealed in full in New York, with the electric truck promising impressive numbers across the board and "styling, technology and capability that pushes beyond what anyone in the category could have imagined”.
That includes dual 250kW motors — one at each axle — and battery choices that span 168kWh to 229kWh, the latter promising a 500 mile (800km) range.
The brand also says the 1500 REV's 800v architecture allows for 350kW fast charging which would accrue 110 miles (177km) in driving range in just 10 minutes.
Add to that a total system output of 487kW and 840Nm, a sprint to 100km/h in just over 4.4secs, a towing capacity of more than six tonnes, and a payload of 1.2 tonnes, and the Ram 1500 REV appears to stack up on all the tough truck metrics.
"It pushes past competition in range, towing and charging times. It's not an electric truck. It's an electric Ram," Mr Koval says.CO
