Memorial Weekend

Walked 18 holes yesterday. My hamstrings and hips are a little tight, probably from all of the lunges. Out in the garage in the early afternoon.

Active Life – Hips

Warm-up

  • 5:00 Airdyne (1.46 miles)
  • 15/15 Lateral Leg Swings
  • 20 Groiners
  • 1:00/1:00 Samson Stretch

Workout

  • Romanian Deadlifts
    • 8×45#
    • 8×135
    • 8×185
    • 8×225
    • 2x8x255
  • Rest
  • 60 Sumo Deadlifts (225#)

All RDLs were done with a neutral grip. For the Sumos I wanted to do 10×6 and was able to. Alternated my mix grip each set. Finished in 4:44. Wasn’t sure how my back would do coming back to these after the trip and slacking most of the week after.

Active Life – Back Max

3 Rounds

  • 60s Front Rack Hold (165#)
  • 50m/50m Single Arm Farmer Carry (70#)

That hold was no cake walk in round one. I focused on controlling my breathing to get me through. Finished in 7:24.

Don’t need anything more than those pieces for the day since I turned strength into some conditioning. Looking forward to the three-day weekend.

Ankle Test

Had some things (aka taxes) to take care of yesterday so made it a rest day. Out in the garage before a late lunch.

Active Life – Hips

Warm-up

  • 5:00 Airdyne (1.5 miles)
  • 15/15 Lateral Leg Swings
  • 20 Groiners
  • 1:00/1:00 Samson Stretch

Workout

  • Romanian Deadlifts
    • 10×45#
    • 10×95
    • 10×135
    • 10×175
    • 10×205
    • 3x10x225
  • 50 Sumo Deadlifts (225#)
    • 10 sets of 5
    • ~ 5 count rest

Rest was basically taking 2 steps over to my blocks to move the counting chip. Finished in 3:30.

Active Life – Back Max

4 Rounds

  • 50s Front Rack Hold (165#)
  • 50m/50m Single Arm Farmer Carry (53#)
  • 25 Push-ups
  • 50 Lateral Hops (over line)

I added in the last two movements so I could turn it into a conditioning piece. Wanted to test my ankle a bit and was fine doing the hops. Just feels weird though, so I hope nothing is going on in there, but I’m worried that it’s not going away. I did 15-10 on every round of push-ups. Finished in 15:33.

Wind Up

My back is a little tight from yesterday. Out in the garage in the evening.

Active Life – Hips

Workout – 15:00

  • 8 Side Shuffles (5m)
  • 20 Walking Lunge (20# DBs)
  • 10 Alternating Kossacks
  • 50m/50m One Arm Waiters Carry (35#)

The instructions said to keep breathing to under 5 breaths in 20 seconds. Not sure how you measure that, so I just went nice and easy. Kept moving but didn’t get my heart rate up. Got through 3 rounds plus the shuffles, lunges, and Kossacks.

Cooldown

  • 1:00/1:00 Hip Wind Up Stretch

Conditioning

10:00 AMRAP

  • 150m Ski Erg
  • 50 DU

Missed several times in the first round of double unders and was thinking I was in for a long one. Never missed more than once in a set after that, but only got through 1 set unbroken. Finished 6+158. Maybe should have moved the car out of the garage so I didn’t have to walk around it.

Active Life – Back Max

4 Rounds

  • 40s Front Rack Hold (185#)
  • 40m/40m Single Arm Farmer Carry (53#)

Could have went with the 70# KB. Finished in 8:48.

Mostly Healthy for the Open

I’m still surprised at how good 18.1 felt yesterday, considering I haven’t been doing many metcons. Twenty minute workouts are not in my wheelhouse, but I was able to fall into a pace and keep at it. The triplet stacked up pretty well for me, so it’ll be interesting to see how the next 4 weeks go. Maybe not being overtrained and/or injured going into the Open is a good thing. Who would have thought?

Last night I started to feel some fatigue in my right shoulder, which is the one where I typically feel a bit of impingement when I overdue something. This morning both shoulders are sore as are my abs.

Active Life – Hips

Warm-up

  • 15/15 Lateral Leg Swings
  • 20 Groiners
  • 1:00/1:00 Samson Stretch

Workout

  • Romanian Deadlifts
    • 10×45#
    • 10×95
    • 10×135
    • 2x10x185
  • 35 Sumo Deadlifts (185#)

I did the 35 in 2 sets of 20-15.

Active Life – Back Max

4 Rounds

  • 30s Front Rack Hold (185#)
  • 30m/30m One Arm Farmer Carry (70#)

Decided to skip conditioning after yesterday’s workout, but did this back work without rest. I go 5m across the garage at a time for the Farmer Carry. Took me 6:48.

An Hour

Needed the rest day Thursday and didn’t feel like working out yesterday, so I rested again. Needed it though after going 7/8 days. Out in the garage after 1 today.

Active Life – Single Leg Bias

Warm-up – 2 Rounds

  • 5/5 Lateral Box Step Ups (30″)
  • 10 Squat Press Outs (25#)
  • 10 Groiners

Then I also warmed up with 10/10 Front Rack Box Step-ups (45#, 20″).

Workout – 2 Sets each leg

  • MAX Front Rack Box Step-ups (95#, 20″)
  • 2:00 Rest

Went right-left-right-left for 25-20-15-25 reps. Bitched out a bit on the 3rd set planning to go for 20 at the end with my left leg to even out the reps. But I wrote down 20 and convinced myself I needed to fight through for those 25 at the end. Glad I got those, but wish I had just done 25 ever set. The shoulders and lungs give out more than the legs here. Probably should be going heavier for max reps.

Active Life – Back Max

3 Rounds

  • 8/8 Turkish Sit-ups (45#)
  • 8/8 Kneeling Torso Row (50#)
  • 8 Evil Wheels
  • 8 Sumo Stance Good Morning (125#)
  • 30s Front Rack Hold (125#)

Sure didn’t need conditioning since this all still took an hour or more.

Angie & Active

Upper body is a little sore from Friday.

Conditioning

Angie

  • 100 Pull-ups
  • 100 Push-ups
  • 100 Sit-ups
  • 100 Air Squats

Haven’t done this in over 3 years. I was able to butterfly through 52 reps and then switched to a regular kip. Kept sets of 5 through 90. On rep 91 I felt my left hand so I finished with quick singles. Was done with the pull-ups at 8:18. Was able to do all 5s on the push-ups and finished at 14:28. Sit-ups completed at 18:40 and final time was 22:27. A bit over 90 seconds slower than my PR, but my 2nd best time.

Active Life – Back Max

3 Rounds

  • 8/8 Turkish Sit Ups (40#)
  • 8/8 Kneeling Torso Row (44#)
  • 8 Evil Wheels
  • 8 Sumo Stance Good Morning (115#)
  • 30s Front Rack Hold (115#)

Scaled back the weights from what I’ve been using to ease my back in.
